Backpack, hiking boots and mascara: Analysis of women independent travelling from the perspective of anthropology of tourism
Kučerová, Petra ; Ezzeddine, Petra (advisor) ; Halbich, Marek (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with the analysis of the gender aspects of women travelling and experience of women travellers, who set out to the non-Europe destinations on their own. The thesis is based on in-depth interviews with women travellers and analyze how these journeys are important to them. The thesis tries to point out that women's solo travelling directly effects their biography as well as career and status of these female travellers. Women independent travelling is introduced as the dynamic process, by means of which they acquire or verify the gender power and abilities, applicable to their personal life and work. Using the concepts of feminist theories implemented on women's travelling, I try to show that this type of travelling is affected by history and prefers male travelling, which displaces the individual women's travelling on the edge of the social and scientific interest. This thesis is based on the anthropology of tourism, particularly on the study of backpacking and set the experience of the woman traveller in the frame of the rites of passage. Moreover the thesis contains the analysis of the public and media discourse, focused on the real case of two young women kidnapped in Pakistan. Keywords: anthropology of tourism, women independent travellers, solo travelling, backpacking,...
The comparison between regular sections in the magazine Tramp and in the magazine Puchejř
Šuhajová, Klára ; Osvaldová, Barbora (advisor) ; Halada, Jan (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with comparison of regular sections of "tramping" magazine Tramp, published between the World War I and the World War II (so called the First Czechoslovak Republic period), and a modern magazine Puchejř. (Tramping in Czech and Slovak language describes a movement incorporating woodcraft, hiking/backpacking/camping and scouting, with a characteristic flavour of and styled on American culture, especially Wild West). Forms of the First Czechoslovak Republic "tramping" and present movement differ in many ways. I expected, that due to these differences, the content of these magazines from different periods will be divergent. The task of this thesis is to find and compare these differences. The thesis consists of two parts - theoretical and practical. The theoretical part deals with differences between the historical and present form of "tramping" itself, and "tramping" magazines. Practical part examines the articles in regular sections of magazine Tramp and magazine Puchejř using the method of content analysis. The 22nd volume of the magazine Puchejř and the first six numbers of the 3rd volume of the magazine Tramp were used as research samples. The research confirmed the hypothesis. It was partly proved, that the articles of regular sections of researched magazines are...

Modern Backpacking and Information Technologies
Žižka, Zdeněk ; Vágner, Jiří (advisor) ; Kučera, Petr (referee)
The bachelor thesis is focused on backpacking as a form of tourism, development of its understanding and influence of modern information and communication technologies. The aim of the thesis is to introduce backpacking and possibilities of information technology use to the Czech professional public. The first theoretical part deals with general characteristics of the phenomenon of backpacking and the development of its understanding in the literature. Attention is also paid to the modern form of backpacking called flashpacking. The second part deals with various activities and problems that backpackers are faced on their journey and their practical connection with information technologies, especially through mobile devices, is presented. The thesis also includes author's own research on travel behavior and the use of information technologies in independent travel. Although the research is primarily orientational, the conclusions of a comparison of two socio-demographically similar groups of young independent travelers from Czechia and the United States were found interesting and sometimes surprising. Key words: backpacking; tourism; flashpacking; information technologies; mobile applications
